Whether we celebrate National Volunteer Week (week of April 21-27) or Global Volunteer Month (April!), the purpose is to recognize, celebrate and thank the wonderful volunteers who share their time, talent, experience and passion in a myriad of ways that benefit their community, state, nation and the world! We at United Way of Northern New Jersey are exceptionally grateful to the thousands of our volunteers who work every day to improve the lives of ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) families and individuals, along with those struggling to make a better life for themselves and their families.
We celebrate those who serve on a board of a nonprofit organization, work in a soup kitchen to feed people who are hungry, help out at the local animal shelter, teach someone to read, coach a little league team, act as a Scout leader, or visit with senior citizens who need some friendly companionship, the number of ways, large and small, that people can and do volunteer is as diverse as are the volunteers themselves. You are appreciated, you are valued and you are Jersey Strong: You are a Volunteer!
If you are interested in expanding your volunteer experience or are new to volunteering and looking for some ideas, United Way of Northern New Jersey and our partner United Ways and Volunteer Centers throughout New Jersey are happy to help! Check out our Get Connected online volunteer resource is a free tool that offers hundreds of opportunities, events and activities looking for volunteers. Additionally, we are happy to promote the Jersey Strong: You Got Served flyer, from our friends at the NJ Governor's Office of Volunteerism & Service, that provides some great ideas for spreading kindness and sharing your volunteer experiences in order to inspire others.
