Families Unite to Work for the Greater Good on New Jersey Family Day of Service.

Imagine a day when thousands of family volunteers throughout New Jersey come together in the spirit of caring and togetherness. New Jersey Family Day of Service is traditionally held over the weekend before the Memorial Day Holiday to kick off the summer season of giving and service.

This year, United Way of Northern New Jersey is proud to announce our participation in this Global Day of Service, coordinated by our friends at the Volunteer Center of South Jersey, which takes place over the weekend of May 19 - 21, 2023. We celebrate the positive impact we can all have in our neighborhoods, communities and throughout our great State of New Jersey.

Why family volunteerism? Because it instills kids, teens, and parents with a sense of community and togetherness. It's so important to give back to the community. Research also suggests that volunteering as a family unit builds teamwork skills and helps children understand critical issues in their communities. Engaging children in volunteering at a young age is more likely to promote a lifelong ethic of service, and research indicates that children who volunteer are more likely to exhibit positive behaviors in other areas of their lives.

Family and youth volunteering has been invaluable to United Way of Northern New Jersey.  Thousands of families and children in need have benefitted from family participation in our Tools for School, Gifts of the Season, Foodstock, Book Buddies, Day of Action and Varsity Letter in Community Service.  We couldn't have impacted the community is such a profound way without our family and youth volunteers!

We are joining in the celebration of family volunteerism and making a difference by offering a number of safe and fun volunteer activities that can be done by the entire family.  Please join our team and make a difference in our community.  Your example is the best way to inspire your children to become life-long volunteers and active, committed citizens.
